Dream with me the "Impossible Dream"

Dream with me the "Impossible Dream"
To dream the impossible dream
To fight the unbeatable foe
To bear with unbearable sorrow
And to run where
the brave dare not go
To right the unrightable wrong
And to love pure and chaste from afar
To try when your arms are too weary
To reach the unreachable star
This is my quest
To follow that star
No matter how hopeless
No matter how far
To fight for the right
Without question or pause
To be willing to march,
march into hell
For that heavenly cause
And I know
If I'll only be true
To this glorious quest
That my heart
Will lie peaceful and calm
When I'm laid to my rest
And the world will be
better for this
That one man, scorned
and covered with scars,
Still strove with his last
ounce of courage
To reach the unreachable,
the unreachable,
The unreachable star
And I'll always dream
The impossible dream
Yes, and I'll reach
The unreachable star
From Man of Lamancha
I love that song and what it stands for. Yes, in the movie he was perceived as a fool, lost in his own world and unrealistic at times. Yet, he had a dream and acted on it!
There is a sentence in the Bible that has become my life verse: "What does the Lord require of you?: To act justly, to love mercy and to walk humbly with our God." My impossible dream is to live that out.
I direct the work of LifeLine CDC, a nonprofit in Merced County that is about empowering neighborhoods to thrive. Nothing glamorous, nothing that causes people to stop and marvel, nothing that will warrant the attention of famous people.... Just dreaming the impossible dream that people matter and that we sometimes need to help them rediscover their own dreams and passions and then work together to move ahead.
This morning while leaving for work I saw a young man high on meth across from our home and it made my heart sad..... what dream did this person lose that he only could find it in drugs?
My office is across from the VA Clinic and I see men and women every day whose bodies are broken, from the wars they were involved in... To fulfill the impossible dream of a free nation. I have friends who dream impossible dreams by living overseas to help others. Others help with homeless, or foster youth, or elderly, or unemployed, or addicted, or teach, or preach. Everyone one of them reaching for the impossible dream..... working for something bigger then themselves.
What is your impossible dream? What is it that makes you get up in the morning and pursue? What causes are you invested in? I know life is busy, work, family, responsibilities......... But what is your impossible dream? What do you pursue that is beyond your daily living? What is your unreachable star?
Today, remember your dreams... Remember what you stand for and live it out!
