From community clean ups to dealing with a break in
October 10, 2022
The last few days were filled with joy, sadness, frustration and outright anger. Some really good things that happened: engaging meetings with a variety of people, being part of a 48 hour worldwide zoom conference around Asset Based Community Development, co-facilitating a class on Faith and Finances, participating in the community clean up in the Loughborough area, preaching at two churches, and praying at the Vigil for the Singh family. All wonderful things that brought joy and sadness.
But in the middle of it all, we had to deal with yet another break-in into our storage unit. We keep fixing the pod to make it difficult to break in, but they destroyed the front door and stole our brand new sports equipment that was designated for our youth programs, they also stole our Christmas gifts as well as a number of other things.
I am sad and angry. Sad that we live in a world where that has become normal practice. Angry, because we work hard to engage with community, to provide resources, to make a difference in Winton and the Loughborough area…. and then things like this happen. The time, resources and energy it costs to fix this is overwhelming. As the director of LifeLine I wear so many hats that I sometimes feel overwhelmed and inadequate. I know we are having an impact in ’empowering impoverished neighborhoods to thrive’, but it comes with a cost. If we want to see lasting change, if we want to see families moving out of poverty, we (you and me) need to do it together. If you agree, then get in touch with us.
