Reset and Recenter

November 24, 2025

I was so sore yesterday. Last week, we rearranged our office. It was time for a new look, and a more
productive work environment. The idea was beautiful, just move some desks and filing cabinets, we should get that done in a couple of hours. Well, that did not work out. We moved almost everything at
least twice. I am not an artistic person; I just need functional space. Lily, on the other hand, can create
beauty out of nothing. There was one desk that we only moved once. Well, I can't even say we moved it;
it was so heavy that we needed some guys to step in. I inherited this desk many years ago, it is one of those wrap-around desks that weighs a ton.
Anyway, in the process of moving, we, of course, had to sort a ton of things. Do we really need it all? What was the purpose? How do we store things most effectively?
Well, we got it done, and it looks beautiful and functional. I have to admit that Lily did all the final
touches. But it made me think of life in general. Our New Year's resolutions are like an office reset; they help us to think through what is important to us, what matters, what can be purged, and what we
treasure. But statistics show that New Year's resolutions don't really work we overcommit and then fail,
and we dream about change but keep our old lifestyle.
As we start the Advent season in preparation for Christmas, maybe we should take the whole four weeks to think about our lives, evaluate what matters to us, declutter, make it more beautiful with
people, and enjoy what we already have. Maybe we can learn to be in the room with differences. Maybe we can evaluate what we have, what we can purge, and how we can be more generous with people. Maybe we even need to think about our relationship with ourselves. Do we love the person we are? Do we have enough beauty and functionality in our lives? Maybe we can even think about our
relationship with God and why we celebrate Christmas. As we enter this season, may we find time to
reset and recenter. Peace.
